Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore has said the governing body is close to signing a multi-year broadcast deal for the Women’s National Basketball League with a free-to-air partner.
Moore told the Fairfax Media news agency that Basketball Australia and the broadcaster are finalising the finer points of a deal that is believed to also include women’s and men’s national team games for potentially the next five years.
“I'm disappointed we are heading into round eight (of WNBL) and still not on air but the reality is these deals take time,” Moore said. “We are in deep conversations with a free-to-air broadcaster, it's imminent.
“A lot of our thinking is around how we position ourselves for the (2018) Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and then the Tokyo 2020 Olympics so that's the cycle we are looking at. It's a big deal, a strategically important deal and we are lining up all the pieces; it takes time but we are close and hopefully we'll have an answer really soon.”
