Newspaper group News UK has acquired the rights to show video clips of goals and other key moments from Scottish Premiership football games, along with some matches featuring League One team Rangers.
Terms of the deal, which was agreed with the MP & Silva agency, were not disclosed but News UK said the first Premiership action will be available via the group’s newspaper websites for fixtures later this month and rolled out to smart phones and tablets later in the 2013-14 season.
The acquisition is part of an ongoing strategy to build on the journalism of News UK’s titles by integrating with digital content. The Scottish edition of The Sun newspaper is the country’s best-selling daily, with over 1.7 million copies sold each week.
Readers of The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times already have access to clips from all 380 English Premier League matches for the next three seasons, while the best moments from England international friendlies and FA Cup ties will be provided for the four seasons from 2014-15 to 2017-18.
