The NFL American football league has opted against streaming live coverage of its three games in London next season.
The league will focus on streaming its Thursday night games on Twitter following its groundbreaking deal with the social media network that was announced last week, a spokesman told the Reuters news agency.
Last season, internet company Yahoo provided live coverage of a London game.
“When we discussed potential streaming packages with interested parties, there were many options on the table, including the London games,” the NFL spokesman said. “Ultimately the package we agreed on with Twitter involved 10 of our Thursday night games which we felt was the best option at that point.”
However, the league did not rule out streaming coverage of the London contests in the future.
“We will continue to evaluate options to put our games on digital platforms, making them as widely accessible to fans around the world as possible,” the spokesman added.
