OMNI pitches Mandarin broadcast of Blue Jays game

Canadian multilingual broadcaster OMNI Television will provide an exclusive Mandarin-language broadcast of today’s (Thursday’s) Toronto Blue Jays game at the Boston Red Sox – the first time an MLB baseball game has been shown in Mandarin in Canada.

The OMNI.2 channel’s broadcast comes with Taiwan-native Chien-Ming Wang scheduled as the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays.

Madeline Ziniak, national vice-president of OMNI Television, said: “The reaction from the Taiwanese and Chinese communities toward Chien-Ming Wang’s stellar game play has been extraordinary to watch. The rising interest in Blue Jays baseball demonstrates the growth of the brand among ethnocultural groups across Canada.”

OMNI Television has previously provided multilingual coverage of an NBA basketball game last year between the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks, the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the 2006 Fifa World Cup. The broadcaster also provided a Cantonese-language broadcast of a Toronto Blue Jays game in 2005.
