North American pay-television broadcaster One World Sports has sealed a new rights deal for the Kontinental Hockey League Russia-based ice hockey club tournament.
The multi-platform deal is exclusive and will cover multiple seasons, the broadcaster said, without disclosing the exact length of the agreement.
The UFA Sports agency brokered the deal on behalf of the league.
One World Sports will show up to 99 games live per season, starting with the 2014-15 campaign, including 50 regular-season match-ups and the Gagarin Cup Finals in April.
“Our previous one-year deal with One World Sports was a chance to introduce the KHL and our quality production to American fans,” Ilya Kochevrin, chief executive of the league’s KHL Marketing division, said. “The current multi-year contract extension underscores our commitment to our US broadcast partner and increases the number of KHL games available to American sports fans by 80 per cent.”
The first game to be shown under the new deal by One World Sports will take place later today (Wednesday) – the season-opening game between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Dynamo Moscow.
