Energy drinks giant Red Bull has delayed plans to launch a second media platform, according to Salzburger Nachrichten.
The Austrian newspaper said ‘Red Bull Global TV’ was due to launch next month, but is set to be delayed by at least six months and could even face an indefinite postponement.
Red Bull already operates online sports and entertainment channel Red Bull TV through its global media company Red Bull Media House. The second platform was planned to initially launch on an online basis before expanding to television carriage later this year.
Red Bull said in a statement to Salzburger Nachrichten: “We ask you to understand that we cannot comment on strategic plans. The whole media market is developing rapidly in the digital direction. We are already distributing in more or less all digital forms of distribution, this is our focus to develop Red Bull TV consistently.”
The newspaper added that the new project has faced “organisational difficulties” – in particular securing licensing rights in various markets.
