ProSiebenSat.1 groups sports interests under new umbrella body

German media company ProSiebenSat.1 has formed a new umbrella body to manage its interests in the sports sector.

The business of the new 7Sports entity will be based on four core pillars. The first of these is ProSiebenSat.1’s digital media business, which includes properties such as Sportdeutschland.tv, 90min.com and Eversport.tv – entities that will be grouped under the 7Sports banner.

ProSiebenSat.1’s rights portfolio, which includes the NFL American football league, will also fall under 7Sports along with sports management agency SAM Sports and event management subsidiary MMP.

“With the digital production and distribution facilities, the sports world is experiencing a global and exponential growth step,” Zeljko Karajica, chief executive of 7Sports, said, according to the DWDL.de website. “We want to establish ourselves as a leading sports platform in German-speaking countries and an innovative ecosystem in creating sports content.

“Our goal is to make the wide variety of leagues, competitions and sports activities available for a growing fan base via the internet, OTT, TV or live locally.”
