Australian commercial broadcaster Seven has extended its rights deal with Racing Victoria, the governing body of horse racing in the state.
Under the agreement, premium Victorian thoroughbred racing will continue to be shown live by Seven until at least June 30, 2020.
The new contract includes 21 Victorian Saturday meetings, headlined by the A$5m (€3.2m/$3.8m) Stella Artois Caulfield Cup on October 20 and the A$5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate on October 27, broadcast annually across the nation on Seven and/or DTT platform 7Two.
RV and Seven’s broadcast agreement comes on top of their existing joint venture partnership, Racing.com, via which Victorian and South Australian racing is available on free-to-air Channel 78 (metropolitan) and Channel 68 (regional) every day.
It is also in addition to the agreement under which Seven broadcast the four days of the Melbourne Cup Carnival from Flemington racecourse. This agreement is scheduled to expire following the 2018 Carnival, with RV currently marketing the rights from 2019.
