Pay-television broadcaster Setanta Ireland has acquired rights for highlights of the English Premier League, the top football division in England.
The exact length of the deal was not disclosed, but the agreement will run until at least the end of the 2013-14 season.
Setanta Ireland will broadcast one show on Saturday evenings at 8.30pm and one on Sunday evenings at 10.30pm, starting this weekend when the league’s opening round of fixtures take place.
Setanta acquired the rights after public-service broadcaster RTÉ, the incumbent rights-holder, said it was not interested in entering negotiations over a possible three-year deal, from 2013-14 to 2015-16, due to cost-cutting measures.
