Australian commercial broadcaster Seven is in talks to expand its partnership with TVN to carry all of the pay-television channel’s horseracing coverage, according to the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper.
Seven currently shows about 28 of TVN’s meetings per year on its 7Two channel.
However, the report said that TVN is looking at the possibility of showing all of its content on one of Seven’s digital platforms.
As part of the proposed partnership, Seven is considering acquiring a wagering licence, initially in Western Australia and then in Victoria, the newspaper added.
TVN is owned by the Australian Turf Club, Melbourne metropolitan clubs and Country Racing Victoria.
Earlier this week Seven struck a deal to broadcast the annual Magic Millions horseracing event, which takes place on the Gold Coast.
“As you have seen with this week's announcement with Gerry Harvey and our signing of the Magic Millions, we are increasing our exposure to horse racing," a Seven spokesperson said. "We love being the broadcast television partner of horse racing. It's a great partnership for our television business."
