Australian commercial broadcaster Seven has acquired the rights to the inaugural Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, the last professional event the Australian cycling great will contest.
Under the broadcast agreement, Seven will air the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race Elite Men’s Road Race live on February 1, 2015, along with highlights of the Elite Women’s Road Race and the People’s Ride event held on the previous day.
The live broadcast will lead into Seven’s coverage of the men’s final of the Australian Open tennis grand slam.
The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is a state government of Victoria initiative created by the Victorian Major Events Company. It has been inspired by the elite one-day Spring Classics of Europe.
Evans is set to retire from professional cycling at the age of 37 following a career highlighted by his victory in the 2011 Tour de France.
