Sky New Zealand confirms World Twenty20 deal

Pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand has confirmed a rights deal for the World Twenty20 cricket tournament, which will start in India next month.

Sky Sport subscribers will be offered coverage of the competition on pop-up channel 056, which will feature live coverage of every match from the men’s tournament and selected matches from the women’s tournament, as well as highlights and repeats.

The New Zealand national team’s pool matches against India, Australia and Pakistan will be simulcast live on established Sky Sport channels. The team’s final pool game against opposition that is yet to be confirmed will be shown on Sky Sport 3 as well as the pop-up channel.

Confirmation of the deal came after reports earlier this week suggested that fans in New Zealand could miss out on coverage of the International Cricket Council event due to an “impasse in negotiations.”
