UK pay-television broadcaster Sky has reportedly decided not to show this year’s edition of tennis grand slam the US Open, bringing to an end one of its longest-running major rights deals.
UK newspaper the Daily Mail said Sky will not take up the option of sublicensing the rights from sports broadcaster Eurosport, which is how it has generally acquired the rights.
Sky has shown the US Open for 25 years and the Mail said the broadcaster is reluctant to strike a new deal with Eurosport available through its platform.
The 2016 US Open will take place from August 29 to September 11 in New York. Britain’s Andy Murray won the men’s singles event in 2012.
