Social media platform Snapchat has signed an extended partnership with Aussie rules football league the AFL.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Snapchat will cover games during the 2017 AFL season, which commences on Thursday, as part of its ‘Our Story’ feature which collates snaps from fans, players and the league itself. Each team’s home stadium will also get a unique geofilter for fans.
Snapchat has previously partnered with the AFL for the 2016 Grand Final and covered the inaugural game of the AFL Women’s League in February.
Snapchat’s parent company, Snap Inc, opened an Australian office in Sydney last year. It holds an existing partnership with the Tennis Australia governing body under which it provided content from this year’s edition of the Australian Open grand slam tournament.
A Snapchat spokesperson told the Mashable website that more than seven million people globally watched the tournament on Snapchat, including almost 500,000 Australians.
