Digital free-to-air channel Sommet Sports and pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand have acquired rights in the country for the Australian Football League (AFL), the top division of Aussie rules in Australia.
The deals will run for three years, from 2014 to 2016.
Sommet Sports will show a minimum of five matches live per week, with the remaining games broadcast on a delayed basis. Sommet’s deal includes live rights for the AFL finals series, including the grand final, and a weekly highlights programme.
Sky New Zealand will show one AFL match per week and one finals game per week on a delayed basis plus live coverage of the grand final and both Anzac Day matches. Sky will also broadcast a weekly highlights programme.
Sommet Sports and Sky also have rights for all games during the NAB Challenge pre-season competition from February 12 to March 1.
Sommet and Sky shared coverage of the AFL during the 2013 season after the league awarded the broadcasters one-year rights deals last March.
