Sony Pictures Television Networks has acquired exclusive rights in Latin America for tournaments on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.
The rights will be exploited on the Canal Sony pay-television channel, starting in 2017.
Sony struck the deal with digital sports media company the Perform Group, which has a 10-year worldwide rights deal with the WTA, from 2017 to 2026.
Canal Sony and the channel’s TV Everywhere offering will show 32 WTA Tour events per season, including the Premier and Premier 5 tournaments and the season-ending WTA Finals.
“This agreement will allow us to greatly increase our reach in the region and expand our audience beyond the traditional sports fan,” said Bruno Rocha, executive vice president of WTA Media.
