New Zealand telco Spark has agreed a five-year digital content rights deal with the International Cricket Council.
The contract, running from 2019 to 2023, includes rights to make available near-live, in-match content, as well as post-match highlights clips on-demand for all global ICC events.
The new ICC deal comes after Spark recently replaced pay-television broadcaster Sky as New Zealand Cricket’s domestic rights-holder in its latest tie-up with public broadcaster TVNZ.
Sky followed that announcement by extending an exclusive agreement with the ICC to continue delivering coverage of its events for the next four years.
Commenting on the digital deal, head of Spark Sport, Jeff Latch, said: “We know that New Zealanders love cricket but understand the challenges that come with finding the time to regularly watch live matches, especially when they are played overseas.
“The ability to watch sports content on-demand is one of the key differences between streaming and traditional television viewing, which makes this new deal an attractive offering to Spark Sport subscribers.”
