Portuguese pay-television broadcaster Sport TV said it would appeal after being fined €3.7m ($4.9m) by the Autoridade da Concorrência, the country’s competition regulator.
The fine relates to the minimum carriage fee Sport TV charged pay-television operators between 2005 and 2011. The original complaint about Sport TV’s carriage fee model was submitted by the Cabovisão operator in 2009.
Sport TV said that the fine was “disproportionate… manifestly unjust and unfounded.”
Sport TV is co-owned by the Zon Multimedia and Sportinveste media companies, and the same regulator is currently examining whether telecommunications company Portugal Telecom can acquire a stake in the broadcaster.
