German sports broadcaster Sport1 has signed a new long-term carriage deal with Vodafone, through which the Sport1+ and eSports1 channels will continue to be available on the telco’s GigaTV platform.
Sports events that will be available on the two channels over the coming days will include the Nascar Cup Series and the DreamHack Masters Spring esports event.
Sport1+ also holds rights to football’s French Ligue 1, Belgian Pro League, English Championship, Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, as well as WTA tennis events. The eSports1 channel also covers the Overwatch League, whose next match day is scheduled for this Saturday.
Rolf Wierig, global head of entertainment and video at Vodafone, said: “The two channels enrich our diverse range of programmes on the GigaTV platform with top events from the esports scene and international sports highlights from the NBA and NHL. But I am especially pleased that we are using GigaTV to help spark the enthusiasm for digital sport in Germany.”
The eSports1 linear channel was launched at the start of 2019.
