Pay-television broadcaster Star India has formed a dedicated sports division as part of a major organisational overhaul.
The sports division is one of five business units, each with its own chief executive who will report to Sanjay Gupta, the current chief operating officer who has been elevated to managing director under the changes.
Nitin Kukreja will serve as Star India’s chief executive of sports, which includes a leading portfolio of channels under the Star Sports banner.
Elsewhere, Uday Shankar will serve as Star India’s chairman and chief executive. Star said the changes position the organisation to meet its future growth ambitions on the back of a decade of rapid growth.
“We have set ourselves a bold growth agenda and these changes will deepen the leadership bench, unlock entrepreneurial energy and position Star better to deliver on its ambitions,” Shankar said.
In February, Star India extended its long-running rights deal for the English Premier League top-tier club football competition. The new agreement will run for three seasons, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
