Pay-television operator StarTimes, which broadcasts in sub-Saharan Africa, has acquired rights to the Fifa Club World Cup and Italian club football competitions the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.
StarTimes has agreed a deal for rights to the 2015 Club World Cup, which will run from December 10-20 in Japan, along with the 2016 tournament, which is also set to be hosted by the Asian country.
The Club World Cup is competed for by the winners of the six continental football competitions and the current champion of the host nation. TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo will represent Africa having won the 2015 edition of the Confederation of African Football’s Champions League tournament.
StarTimes said it has also secured rights to the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana across the 2015-16 to 2017-18 seasons. The broadcaster’s coverage of the Coppa Italia will commence from December 2 with eight games from the fourth round of the knockout club competition.
