Pan-African pay-television operator StarTimes has acquired rights covering a number of tournaments operated by Fifa, football’s global governing body.
The exclusive rights include three tournaments that are taking place this year.
The rights cover the Fifa U-20 World Cup, which starts tomorrow and concludes on June 20 in New Zealand; as well as the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada, which runs from June 6 to July 5; and the Fifa U-17 World Cup in Chile, which will take place from October 17 to November 8.
StarTimes also confirmed plans to launch its new sports channel, Star Sport Premium, on June 1. The channel will be included in the StarTimes Unique package. The broadcaster added that three more sports channels would be launched soon.
The U-20 World Cup will be shown live on the Star Sports 2 channel, while the Women’s World Cup will be broadcast on Star Sports Premium.
