Pay-television sports broadcaster SuperSport, which operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has launched a new 24-hour cricket channel.
The move is designed to accommodate the wealth of international cricket in the coming months, much of it in South Africa.
The channel will cover the ongoing Ashes series between Australia and England, along with Pakistan and India’s tours to South Africa and Australia’s games in the country.
The Ram Slam domestic Twenty20 club competition, the Australia-England one-day international and T20 series and India’s trip to New Zealand will also be included.
The channel will be operational until April 6, concluding with the World Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh.
“There is an extraordinary amount of cricket and we felt this was the best way to give it the coverage it deserves,” Nomsa Chabeli Mazibuko, SuperSport’s marketing director, said. “We’ll supplement the live coverage with legacy footage and the like.”
