African pay-television broadcaster SuperSport has agreed a three-year deal with the Ghana Football Association to acquire the exclusive broadcast rights to the Ghana Premier League, the country’s top football division, and FA Cup knockout competition.
The deal will run from 2013-14 through 2015-16 and marks the first time an international broadcaster has acquired the rights to the Premier League.
SuperSport will also produce all Premier League and FA Cup matches for broadcast under the agreement, which commenced on Sunday with the Premier League game between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Fred Crentsil, GFA vice-president, said: “The deal gives Ghana football the opportunity to market itself on a bigger platform to attract more fans as well as corporate bodies.”
Last month, SuperSport also acquired the rights to the Nigerian Professional Football League, the top division of football in the West African country, under a four-year rights deal, from 2015-16 to 2018-19.
