Pay-television broadcaster SuperSport, which operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has agreed a four-year rights deal with the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa).
Under the terms of the deal, SuperSport will be the rights holder of both the Cecafa Challenge Cup national team tournament and Kagame Cup club competition.
Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye told Rwanda’s New Times newspaper: “The deal which starts effective this year will see SuperSport inject some money to support the hosting federation of the competitions for a period of four years.”
In other news, SuperSport has added a seventh high-definition channel to its line-up. SSHD7 will begin broadcasting on April 22 and will be available to premium subscribers to pay-television platform DStv.
It will offer a variety of sports including European football leagues, tennis, rugby sevens, boxing, golf, cycling, ice hockey, athletics, basketball, swimming and motor sport, with the possibility of cricket also being added to the schedule.
SuperSport’s acting chief executive, Brandon Foot, said: “This seventh SuperSportHD channel means that all Barclays Premier League and Uefa Champions League football will be available in HD, along with other popular sports such as boxing and golf.”
