Fisu, the governing body of international university sport, has secured a record number of broadcasting hours for a winter Universiade, as the 2013 edition of the multi-sport event gets underway in Trentino, Italy today.
The 26th edition of the winter Universiade will be broadcast worldwide amounting to a total of approximately 170 hours. Fisu will operate as the host broadcaster of the event with live production of 78 competitions and live production of all final events, with the exception of women’s ice hockey and downhill and Super G skiing.
Fisu will also produce 21 daily highlights programmes of a 26-minute duration, along with news clips. The 2013 winter Universiade will receive television coverage through rights deals struck with pan-regional sports broadcaster Eurosport, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Korean commercial broadcaster KBS, US network CBS, Russian free-to-air broadcaster RTR and Czech public-service broadcaster CTV.
Italian state broadcaster Rai will provide coverage of the Universiade in its host nation, with the event due to conclude on December 21.
