Turf TV, the horseracing channel for betting shops in the UK and Ireland, has agreed a partnership with US racecourse owner Stronach Group to show racing from its tracks, according to the Telegraph newspaper.
The profit-sharing deal, agreed with Stronach subsidiary Xpressbet, will allow Turf TV to broadcast racing from tracks including Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields. Coverage will commence in the autumn.
Adrian Ford, Turf TV’s managing director, said the deal was aimed at catering to the “global audience” for top-class racing. “British and Irish runners are regularly competing for prizes across the word and last week’s Royal Ascot attracted high-quality runners from the US, Australia and South Africa,” he said.
One of the major events at a Stronach track is the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of America’s triple crown for champion three-year olds, which is run at Pimlico Racecourse in Maryland.
Xpressbet chief executive Ron Luniewski said the partnership with Turf TV was part of Stronach’s commitment to showcasing its tracks “outside of North America”.
