Twitter adds to sports-rights portfolio with Six Nations deal

Social media platform Twitter has expanded its presence in the sports-rights market by agreeing a sublicensing deal for live-streaming rights to France’s games in the Six Nations.

The deal was agreed with French public-service broadcaster France Télévisions, the competition’s rights-holder in the country.

The agreement commenced with France’s 22-16 win over Scotland in Paris yesterday (Sunday) and will take in the national team’s remaining three matches against Ireland, Italy and Wales.

Only Twitter users in France are able to access the live stream of games, which is provided via the 6nations.twitter.com portal. Twitter’s coverage will feature a live timeline of related tweets next to the match video.

France Télévisions also streams live coverage of the Six Nations.
