United embarks on pay-per-view streaming initiative

English Premier League football club Manchester United has announced it will live stream its pre-season friendly against Swedish Allsvenskan club AIK Fotboll on a pay-per-view basis via its official website.

The initiative marks the first time United has embarked on such a distribution method, with the game taking place in Stockholm on August 6. The match will be available to view via television, mobile, tablet, desktop or any other internet accessible device for a one-off fee of £5.95 (€6.89/$8.99).

The service will be available in all markets with the exception of Thailand, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Turkey.

United said the club’s website will be the only place in the world where fans can see the match live online. Fans wishing to subscribe to the game must register their details and pay the one-off fee, with a 25 per cent discount available up to August 4.
