East African pay-television provider Zuku has agreed an exclusive five-year broadcast partnership with Kenya Rugby Union for the airing of all rugby matches played under the auspices of the governing body.
The agreement is worth 250m Kenyan Shillings (€2.2m/$2.9m). It will begin in the 2013-14 season and run through to the 2017-18 season.
Acting as the official broadcast partner, Zuku will hold the exclusive broadcast rights, along with production rights to KRU matches. It will provide an allocation of airtime on Zuku channels to promote rugby union, its partners and events.
Zuku will have the right to broadcast several African-based rugby events featuring KRU national sides and domestic club teams, including Safaricom Sevens, Bamburi Rugby Super Series and the Elgon Cup. The deal also covers the Kenya Cup, Eric Shirley Shield, International Mombasa Sevens and the National Sevens Circuit.
The agreement also includes a bonus for the Kenya national team if it is able to qualify for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
