Boom.tv, a new 3D live-streaming platform for esports, has announced its beta launch and revealed that it has raised $3.5m (€3.3m) in funding from investors.
Boom.tv constructs 3D experiences from a player’s game stream in real time, allowing followers to experience gameplay from a range of titles on any PC or mobile device. An update will be released in due course that will add virtual reality experiences to the app.
To take advantage of Boom.tv, users must run the app while streaming game play to allow patent-pending technology to render the 3D stream. No prior integration from game developers is required.
The app also allows players to create one-click highlight montages, which will be shareable through social media.
Investors include First Round Capital, Tandem Capital, Crosscut Ventures, Betaworks, Boost VC and Bitkraft eSports Ventures. Boom.tv will use the $3.5m to support the top 10 esports titles.
The app is currently available for titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends.
