Free-to-air and pay-television broadcaster Abu Dhabi Media has launched a new sports channel dedicated to increasing the exposure for traditional Emirati sports in the Arab region.
The National newspaper said the new Yas channel will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven-days-a-week focusing on the United Arab Emirates’ traditional sports of camel racing, falconry, horse racing and dhow racing.
In addition to pre-recorded programmes such as documentaries and talk shows, Yas will seek to incorporate new innovations to its coverage of live sporting events. The National said racing coverage will include footage from cameras mounted on the jockey and on the racing animal’s head.
“Yas will become the leading channel covering both local and international sport events,” Abdul Hadi Al Sheikh, executive director of television at Abu Dhabi Media, said. “We are committed to adopting the latest technology that will aid in showcasing these vibrant sports and introducing them to new audiences.”
