The Argentinian government has increased the budget for its ‘Football for All’ scheme, which ensures coverage of football’s top two divisions in the country is available on free-to-air television.
The government responded to a request by the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) to adjust the budget to meet increasing costs associated with the scheme.
The annual budget has been increased by A120m (€8m/$8.7m) to a total of A1.898bn.
The government launched its ‘Football for All’ scheme in 2009, acquiring the media rights for the domestic league until 2018-19 and putting the matches on free-to-air television.
The latest budget adjustment means that the guaranteed annual minimum revenue for the federation under Football for All has trebled since the scheme began. In 2009-10, the AFA generated A600m through the arrangement, with the figure rising to A1.195bn in 2014 and increasing again last year.
