Athletic Bilbao and Mediapro end rights dispute

Spanish Liga football club Athletic Bilbao and the Mediapro agency have reached an agreement to settle their long-running rights dispute.

Athletic said that an agreement had been signed for Mediapro to pay the “full amount” of the money it owed from the two parties’ former rights contract – a sum amounting to close to €11.5m ($15.6m).

The agency had claimed that the club had breached several clauses in the contract between the two parties, but Athletic strongly denied the allegations.

Mediapro’s contract with Bilbao expired on June 30, 2012. The club last year signed a new three-season agreement with pay-television broadcaster Prisa TV worth €30m per year for the 2012-13 to 2014-15 period.
