The ATP has added to its coverage in Austria of the ATP Cup in 2020 by agreeing a deal with commercial broadcaster ServusTV.
ATP Media, the broadcast rights sales arm of the ATP Tour, had already agreed a non-exclusive deal in the country for the 2020 ATP Cup last week with pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland. That deal was for exclusive rights in Germany and non-exclusive rights in Austria and Switzerland.
The ATP Cup is a new team competition organised by the men’s Association of Tennis Professionals that will launch in January. Austria will be competing in the tournament, with the current world number four and Austrian number one Dominic Thiem set to feature.
ServusTV will broadcast all single matches featuring Dominic Thiem in the group stage and all matches from the final. All other Austrian matches from the group stage and the Final Eight stage will be live on the ServusTV website.
ServusTV is thought to be looking to expand its sports rights offering. Most recently it bid aggressively for rights to a host of International Ski Federation World Cup events, which it eventually lost out to public-service broadcaster ORF. Earlier this month, the Red Bull-owned broadcaster appointed David Morgenbesser, a sports rights executive at German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland, as its head of sports rights and content distribution.
