Fiba, basketball’s global governing body, has revealed impressive audience figures for host nation Spain’s games so far at the 2014 Basketball World Cup.
Spain’s 88-64 victory over France on Wednesday was watched by an average of just under four million viewers, generating an average audience share of 22.2 per cent and a peak of 29.7 per cent to register as the largest audience so far for a game at the tournament – better than the viewing figures for Spain’s two MotoGP races this year in Jerez (2.71 million) and Catalunya (2.65 million).
Coverage of the United States’ games against Finland and Turkey earlier this week also attracted more than one million viewers in the US, double the audiences that tuned in for the afternoon coverage of tennis’ US Open.
