UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has extended a rights deal for the London Marathon, one of the six members of the World Marathon Majors.
The three-year extension will run from 2019 through to the 2021 race, covering the 40th edition of the event in 2020.
The BBC will retain exclusive broadcast rights in the UK across television, digital and radio. The BBC has served as host broadcaster for the London Marathon since its inaugural edition in 1981.
Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: “The London Marathon is an event that unites the nation via huge participation and the BBC's coverage brings audiences to the heart of the action while telling the incredible stories of those taking part.”
This year’s London Marathon will take place on April 24.
