UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has agreed a two-year extension to its contract with professional men’s tennis tour, the ATP, to air its World Tour Finals event.
The BBC has provided a free-to-air platform for the showpiece end-of-season tournament since it moved to London’s O2 Arena in 2009. The event will remain at the venue for the duration of the BBC’s latest agreement, which comprises the 2014 and 2015 tournaments.
Under the terms of its new deal with the ATP, the BBC has secured non-exclusive television rights, with eight singles matches to be shown on its channels, including one semi-final and the final.
BBC director of sport Barbara Slater said: “Bringing this, the pinnacle of the men’s tour, to our audience, is evidence of our commitment to providing key live sporting moments to the nation on free-to-air television.”
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in last night’s final to claim the 2013 singles title in a competition that pits the top eight men’s singles players and doubles teams against each other at the end of every season.
