US media company Comcast has struck a deal to distribute cable-television broadcaster the Big Ten Network (BTN) in the states of New Jersey and Maryland.
BTN agreed similar deals with cable-television operators Time Warner Cable and Cablevision in May. The Comcast deal means that BTN will be available on three major cable-television distributors serving the New York and Washington DC markets.
BTN commissioner Mark Silverman said that all three agreements would be activated before the Big Ten American football season begins in August. He also said that BTN would now attempt to agree distribution deals with smaller cable carriers over the next few months.
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and the University of Maryland will both join the Big Ten Conference in the 2015 season.
