The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) has launched a pay-per-view model for its OTT streaming service, a move that will grant full coverage of the men’s and women’s Superliga club competitions for the first time.
The Vôlei Brasil Channel first launched during the 2017-18 season and the CBV’s announcement will see a significant uplift in the number of live Superliga games it provides. During the 2019-20 season, which commences on Saturday, Vôlei Brasil Channel will offer at least 120 matches, the exact number depending on requests from broadcast partners, amounting to at least 350 hours of exclusive live content.
The development marks the first time that all games from the Superliga will be broadcast.
Three different PPV packages will be provided to volleyball fans. A package consisting of all regular season games across the men’s and women’s leagues will cost R$99.90 (€22/$24), with a package for either of the two leagues priced at R$59.90. A third package, comprising of games chosen by the fan, is priced at R$19.90.
Vôlei Brasil Channel is managed by TV NSports, the Brazilian live-streaming company.
Guilherme Figueiredo, executive director of TV NSports, said: “Over the past two years we have broadcast a significant portion of our games for free on our platform and, as we look at the demand, we have concluded that the game is ready to have 100 per cent of its games streamed, generating new revenues for clubs and the Superliga.”
In addition to Vôlei Brasil Channel, Superliga games will also be covered by pay-television broadcaster SporTV, Globoesporte.com and free-to-air broadcaster TV Cultura.
Upon the launch of its OTT streaming service last year, the CBV vowed to make around 60 games from the men’s and women’s leagues available from the rest of the 2017-18 campaign.
