Broadcast coverage for this year’s European Athletics Championships, which began earlier today (Wednesday) in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, has exceeded expectations, according to Svein Arne Hansen, president of the European Athletics governing body.
Broadcasters in at least 32 European countries will provide coverage of the event, while pan-regional broadcaster Eurosport will show the majority of the Championships live across the 54 territories it serves.
European Athletics confirmed that over 900 hours of television coverage would be broadcast over the course of the event, which will run until July 10. The figure includes more than 800 hours of live coverage.
“The expected television coverage confirms the value broadcasters attach to a European Athletics Championships held during the Olympic year,” Hansen said. “The number of hours (is) higher than we expected considering the more compact five-day format instead of six and with no race walks or marathon in the programme.”
English-language coverage of the event will also be live streamed via European Athletics’ website.
