North American basketball league the NBA has teamed up with UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport and Canadian communications and media company Rogers to deliver an NBA game in 4K ultra-high definition to the public for the first time.
Tonight’s (Thursday’s) NBA Global Games fixture between the Orlando Magic and the Toronto Raptors, which will be staged at London’s O2 Arena, will be available to BT Sport subscribers in the UK and Rogers’ customers in Canada.
BT Sport will provide the game coverage via its 4K production truck and specially-adapted 4K cameras located in the arena. The broadcaster will air the game on its ultra-high-definition channel, while Rogers 4K will show the fixture in Canada.
The NBA has delivered a 4K game in the past but tonight’s fixture is the first to be made available to the public. Last year’s clash between the New York Knicks and the Milwaukee Bucks was broadcast using the technology but was available on an invite-only basis for NBA and BT Sport executives.
