Australian pay-television channel operator Premier Media Group appointed Gary Burns as the new director of its Fox Sports channels. Burns will oversee rugby league, rugby union, football, cricket and tennis programming on the Fox Sports 1, 2 and 3 channels.
Burns spent 20 years at commercial broadcaster Nine where, as director of sports, he served as executive producer of the NRL Footy Show amongst other programmes. After leaving Nine he spent worked as head of television at horse racing subscription channel TVN.
Fox Sports chief executive Patrick Delany said Burns would bring to Fox Sports “tremendous experience in producing live sport” and “his vision and expertise” would take the broadcaster’s production standards to a new level. The addition of Burns will strengthen PMG’s executive team after Delany succeeded David Malone as chief executive of the company earlier this year, with the latter joining the V8 Supercars motorsport series.
