Serbian sports channel SOS has been put up for sale after its owner, Dragisa Kovačević, said that the state has “no interest” in providing assistance.
Kovačević said that further details would be revealed in the coming days and added that his motivation for aiming to offload the channel is to keep its employees in work, according to multiple reports.
“I have already committed 45 years of service and I have neither the motivation nor the desire to continue working,” he said. “In conditions such as this, when there is no support from the state or the economy, SOS can barely survive.”
Radoica Milosavljevic, who founded a company called SOS Kanal Plus in January in the same offices as SOS to work on “production and television programmes”, has been named by local media as a possible buyer.
SOS launched more than two decades ago and is Serbia’s only major sports channel.
