Canada Rugby seals CBC rights deal

Canadian public-service broadcaster CBC has agreed a multi-year rights partnership with the Rugby Canada national governing body.

The agreement grants CBC rights to international rugby sevens fixtures, with the broadcaster to also follow Canada’s path to the Tokyo 2020 summer Olympic Games.

The partnership, announced yesterday (Thursday), commenced last week with coverage of the first round of the World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai.

CBC’s coverage of the series continues this weekend with the second round of fixtures from Cape Town, South Africa.

CBC Sports will deliver multi-platform annual coverage of the men’s and women’s World Rugby Sevens Series, as well as next year’s Rugby World Cup Sevens which will take place in San Francisco.

Coverage will include live streaming via the cbcsports.ca website and the CBC Sports app.

Canada’s women’s sevens team won the bronze medal at last year’s Olympic Games in Brazil.
