Canal Plus will demand €293m ($401m) in compensation from rival French pay-television broadcaster BeIN Sports in a lawsuit submitted to the country’s Tribunal de Commerce business court, according to the BFM Business news website.
Canal Plus, which has accused beIN Sports of unfair competition practices and has been preparing a lawsuit for more than a year, claim that it has lost 187,000 subscriptions since the launch of the rival pay-television broadcaster in France.
The report added that beIN Sports is counter-suing Canal Plus in the court for €66m in damages. BeIN Sports believes its reputation has been damaged by Canal Plus’s public criticism.
