Canadian public-service broadcaster CBC has agreed a sublicensing deal with DAZN, the OTT service operated by digital sports media company Perform, for rights to this year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The deal has been signed ahead of the start of the multi-sport event tomorrow (Wednesday).
CBC will hold live rights to the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies, along with highlights of key events featuring Canadian athletes and para-athletes.
DAZN Canada acquired exclusive rights to the Games in February. The deal was set to mark the first time that the event would have been covered exclusively by a live-streaming platform, with DAZN set to broadcast hundreds of hours of coverage.
Diver Meaghan Benfeito will be Canada’s flag bearer during tomorrow’s opening ceremony. The Games will run until April 15.
