CBC Sports continues Canadian basketball coverage in new deal to 2022

The CBC Sports division of Canadian public-service broadcaster CBC has extended its media-rights deal with the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) until 2022 in a three-year extension.

Under the agreement, CBC Sports will offer live streams of all 70 regular-season games and its five play-off games free of charge via the CBC Gem streaming service, on cbcsports.ca and via the CBC Sports app. CBC will also cover seven regular-season games and the CEBL Championship Weekend in Edmonton.

The 2020 CEBL season gets underway on May 7 when the Ottawa BlackJacks expansion franchise takes on the Niagara River Lions.

CBC Sports provided comprehensive coverage of the 2019 CEBL campaign, which was the competition’s inaugural campaign. Under a deal signed in June, CBC live-streamed the remaining 39 games of the season, as well as the Championship Weekend.
