US network CBS has said its new OTT sports service, CBS Sports HQ, will launch later this month.
CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves gave further details about the new platform as the company announced its quarterly financial results yesterday (Thursday).
Moonves initially disclosed the plans as the broadcaster revealed its second quarter financial results in August. During a November earnings conference call, CBS executives then said the new platform would be a free advertising-supported service, bundled together with existing video news channel CBSN.
Moonves yesterday said the launch of CBS Sports HQ has been timed to coincide with its coverage of college basketball tournament March Madness and US golf major The Masters.
Moonves said the new service will not show live action. He added, according to CordCuttersNews.com: “(It) will be more informational, more scores and highlights… but it will not be something you’ll watch a football game on.”
