Sports streaming service DAZN has enhanced its basketball coverage in Spain by agreeing a three-season deal for rights to European club competition the Basketball Champions League.
The agreement will run from 2019-20 to 2021-22. In the forthcoming season, DAZN will provide Spanish fans the opportunity to follow the fortunes of Casademont Zaragoza, Baxi Manresa, Iberostar Tenerife and San Pablo Burgos.
The 2019-20 season tips off on October 15 and concludes with the Final Four, scheduled for May 1-3.
DAZN already holds rights in Spain to Euroleague Basketball’s club competitions. The four-season deal runs from 2019-20 to 2022-23 and includes live matches and clips from the top-tier EuroLeague and second-tier EuroCup.
The direct-to-consumer streaming platform launched in Spain in February, armed with rights to EuroLeague, the English Premier League, FA Cup, Coppa Italia, MotoGP, World Superbikes, UFC and boxing fights promoted by Golden Boy and Matchroom. Non-exclusive rights to this year’s Fiba Basketball World Cup were also secured.
In previous seasons, regional Spanish channels have acquired the rights to show the BCL games of their local team. There was also coverage of Iberostar Tenerife’s matches during the inaugural BCL campaign (in 2016-17) on Mediapro’s Gol channel.
Basketball Champions League chief executive Patrick Comninos said today (Thursday): “The Basketball Champions League exposure will be maximised thanks to the broadcasting of the games of all Spanish clubs by DAZN, and we are glad to see the Basketball Champions League extending its experience through digital coverage.”
DAZN is currently priced at €9.99 ($11) per month in Spain (or a one-off payment of €99.99 for 12 months).
